Context-Aware Filtering

Tell Beacon about your goals, schedule, and useful interests. It compiles that context into fast local rules and uses bounded AI assistance only for genuinely ambiguous pages.

Distraction Blocker

Block entire sites or just specific pages. Keep tutorial YouTube but block the entertainment side, or use Reddit without the news feed.

Timers, Schedules & Categories

Set time limits, schedule blocks, or toggle entire categories on and off. Pair with allow/block lists for full control.

Harbor & Bearing Checks

Keep your heading in view, return to Harbor when a route becomes a distraction, and get timely reminders of why you started.

YouTube Customization

Strip the distracting parts of YouTube without blocking the site. Hide the home feed, Shorts, sidebar recommendations, comments, autoplay, and end screens.

Strict Mode

Lock your rules behind a countdown timer or an unlock partner. Once it's on, you can't change your rules or pause blocking until time's up.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Beacon Blocker.

Beacon Blocker is a Chrome extension that reduces distracting sites and recommendation surfaces based on your goals, schedule, and explicit choices. You describe what helps or pulls you off course, and Beacon turns that context into rules you can review and adjust.

When you confirm setup or a qualifying rule update, Beacon sends the relevant confirmed context—including your goals, schedule, blocking categories, and any custom rule prompt—to Google Gemini to generate candidate rules. Beacon validates those rules before they run locally in the extension. Separately, when a page cannot be decided locally, limited page context may be sent over an encrypted HTTPS connection for an optional AI-assisted decision. Decisions are cached locally on your device so repeat visits are fast.

Page URLs, titles, search context, and descriptions used for a decision are processed in real time and are not stored in Beacon's application database or analytics. Detailed history and cached decisions stay on your device. Optional domain-level activity collection is off by default, is retained for at most 7 days when enabled, and can be erased immediately from the dashboard. Beacon does not sell your data.

Beacon Blocker works on virtually any website you visit. It can distinguish between different parts of a site, keep deliberate searches and selected content reachable, and reduce recommendation feeds. You can also use categories and explicit allow or block choices.

Yes. Keeping Beacon active all the time is recommended, but you can deactivate it during selected hours and set different weekday and weekend schedules.

Yes. Beacon has a free tier that does not require payment details. Optional paid plans expand features and daily AI-assisted allowances; current plan details are shown before checkout.

Beacon Blocker is optimized for performance with minimal impact on page load times. Known sites are categorized instantly, and decisions are cached so repeat visits are even faster. Most pages load without any noticeable delay.

Yes. You can pause blocking from the extension popup or sign out from the extension. Your rules remain saved so Beacon can resume them when you turn it back on.

Currently, Beacon Blocker is only available as a Chrome browser extension for desktop. Mobile support is being explored for future development.
